Podcast

Podcast..kinda sounds like what you put on a broken group of peas..hahaha.. okay so I'm not funny but seriously...There are so many things you can do with recording software and a microphone. The possibilities are endless in a classroom and it's amazing how easy things like audacity are to use. I think teachers are afraid to take the step toward podcasts because they think they can only be used on ipods...wrong... they think that they are hard to make.. wrong again... they think little kids couldn't ever do something like a podcast.. wr.. er.. you get the idea... I think it will be fun to try a lesson with the primary grades and podcasting!

Digital Video Editing

I see the ways in which digital video editing would be great for middle and high school kids but I'm still trying to wrap my head around using this with elementary school students. As I am trying to get a better grasp on this, amazingly I have a teacher who comes to me and says, " I want to learn something new.. what's new in our technology closet that I haven't done yet?" After thinking for a second I say," yeah we have these new FLIP cameras.. let's get together and plan something for using them with your students." The great thing is this... this is going to force me to come up with something to do with video editing... I'm up for the challenge for sure!! :)

Wikiwhat?

So now on to wikis... Personally I was always against letting students use wikis for research in the past. Why you say? Because I thought ther'e would be issues with false information and hearsay. On the flip side though, wikis are quick and information can be posted with lightning speed, unlike the good old encyclopedia. I am going to be doing a unit soon that requires students to do some research. Should I allow the use of wikipedia? Should I not? What do you all think? Maybe allow wikipedia but tell students they must find that same information elsewhere as well to "back up the facts"? Still leary but it's technology so I have to go there! :)

Sitting in class...

So we got this new assignment to start a blog about blogging. Interesting assignment.. Don't you think? So blogs.. think they are a great way to get a look at how people are thinking. From the blogs I've checked in the past it seems people are quite honest and frank about their thoughts so it seems that people are more willing to get their thoughts down than to speak what they feel. We'll see how this goes!! :)
